Sophos has announced a partnership with OpenAI to bring OpenAI frontier models to managed service providers (MSPs) through Sophos Fusion, its AI-native cybersecurity defense system.
The partnership is intended to enable Sophos partners to incorporate frontier AI into a connected cyber defense system and develop new security services around the capabilities.
Sophos Fusion uses an open architecture that connects security controls across endpoint, network, email, cloud, identity and security operations. Through the partnership, Sophos plans to integrate OpenAI frontier models into this existing defense environment, allowing MSPs to use AI capabilities within the security systems they already operate.
Sophos is also expanding its focus on protecting the use of AI within organisations through Sophos AI Defense. Available for early access in August 2026, the offering is designed to provide visibility into AI and shadow AI usage, enforce policies and help organisations govern the use of sensitive data across AI models and tools.
The partnership builds on the relationship between Sophos and OpenAI through the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, under which the companies have worked with cybersecurity organisations to develop governed security solutions and workflows.
John Peterson, Chief Technology Officer, Sophos, said the partnership would bring OpenAI models into Sophos Fusion, where connected security controls, shared context and human accountability can support their use in cyber defence. He added that Sophos’ channel network creates an opportunity for partners to develop new AI security services.
Sophos said MSPs can use the combined capabilities to strengthen detection, investigation and response while developing security services tailored to customer environments.
The company has more than 25,000 partners, including over 7,000 MSPs, according to the announcement.
Alex Ryals, CISO and SVP, MicroAge, a Sophos partner, said customers are increasingly adopting AI and seeking ways to secure its use, adding that the partnership could create new security services for customers.
Sophos said it will share further information about the partnership and potential offerings in the coming months.
