Workday integrates Sana Self-Service Agent with Microsoft 365 Copilot

Workday has announced that its Sana Self-Service Agent is now available within Microsoft 365 Copilot, enabling employees and managers to access HR and finance support directly within Microsoft 365 without switching between applications.

The integration is designed to simplify everyday workplace tasks such as checking leave balances, submitting time-off requests, reviewing expense statuses, accessing company policies, and completing performance-related workflows through natural language interactions.

According to Workday, the integration allows Microsoft 365 Copilot to securely connect with the Sana Self-Service Agent whenever a request involves Workday data or business processes. The tasks are then completed within Workday using the organisation’s existing approvals, policies, and governance frameworks.

The company stated that employees and managers often move across multiple systems, including emails, portals, chats, and help desks, to manage routine HR and finance queries. The new integration aims to reduce this operational friction while improving productivity for HR and finance teams.

Sana from Workday functions as the company’s agentic AI platform, connecting organisational data, policies, and workflows to automate tasks and improve business processes while maintaining human oversight.

Commenting on the launch, Joel Hellermark, Sana General Manager, Workday, said, “People shouldn’t have to jump between systems just to get a simple HR or finance answer. With our Self-Service Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot, Workday quietly does the hard work in the background, so answers simply appear where people already are.”

The integration enables employees to perform actions such as viewing payslips, updating personal information, checking tax withholding details, and requesting leave. Managers can review team goals, approve timesheets, initiate performance reviews, and submit payroll inputs, while finance teams can access expense and travel policies or create relevant requests.

Microsoft stated that the integration supports organisations in maintaining governance, compliance, and data control while enabling AI-driven workplace experiences.

Srini Raghavan, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft 365 Ecosystem at Microsoft, said, “Microsoft 365 Copilot is designed to help people stay in the flow of work while getting more done with less friction. With Workday’s Sana Self-Service Agent integrated into Microsoft 365 Copilot, employees can access HR and finance support in the tools they use every day, while organizations retain the same policies, controls, and governance they already rely on with Workday.”

Workday further stated that all interactions through the Self-Service Agent continue to run through Workday’s existing security, policy, and approval frameworks, ensuring role-based permissions and auditability remain intact.

Sarah Rolfs, SVP, HR and Transformation, Direct Supply, said, “Our partnership with Workday is an important part of our broader AI-first strategy, helping bring key actions and insights into the flow of work – enabling faster decisions, stronger organizational outcomes, and greater value for the customers and communities we serve.”

The Sana Self-Service Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot is now generally available for eligible Workday and Microsoft customers.
