New Relic highlights responsible AI and sustainability progress in 2026 Impact Report

New Relic has published its 2026 Impact Report, highlighting progress in responsible AI governance, operational sustainability and enterprise risk management, including ISO/IEC 42001 certification and approximately USD 18 million in savings through its GreenOps programme.

The company said it has become the first observability provider to receive ISO/IEC 42001 certification, the international standard for artificial intelligence management systems. The certification follows an independent assessment of New Relic’s Artificial Intelligence Management System, covering governance and controls across the AI lifecycle.

New Relic has also published its AI Principles and joined the EU AI Pact as part of its efforts to strengthen responsible AI practices. The company said its approach includes technology and tool assessments, risk management processes and controls focused on data safety, transparency and oversight.

Sustainability initiatives also formed a significant part of the report. During FY26, more than 80 engineering initiatives under the company’s GreenOps programme generated approximately USD 18 million in cost savings, exceeding its USD 15 million target. These initiatives included architectural right-sizing and data archiving, while cloud carbon emissions were reduced by 10–12 per cent per unit of work.

To improve computing efficiency, New Relic said it modernised its data streams using AWS Graviton 4 processors, which offer 25 per cent greater efficiency compared with previous generations. The company also optimised its Azure deployments to reduce energy consumption associated with networking between data centres.

New Relic expanded its central Enterprise Risk Management framework during FY26 to cover risks associated with AI, climate and third-party vendors. Environmental data has also been incorporated into the risk management process as the company works towards its 1.5°C Science Based Targets while managing increasing computing requirements.

The company has further automated its Anti-Money Laundering and Know Your Customer screening processes, bringing these operational controls together with AI governance and climate-related risk management within its broader enterprise oversight framework.

New Relic said its sustainability efforts also included purchasing 5,300 Renewable Energy Certificates to support the refurbishment of the Ocotillo wind farm project in Big Spring, Texas. The project involved the refurbishment of 28 wind turbines, with the partners estimating that the initiative could extend their operational lifespan by 10–12 years and avoid around 59,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The report also highlighted the company’s social impact initiatives. New Relic said 66 per cent of its employees participated in social impact activities, contributing more than 4,900 volunteer hours. Through its Observability for Good programme, the company provided free platform support to more than 1,100 non-profit organisations and delivered observability training to 3,200 early-career technologists through New Relic for Students.

New Relic also reported a 100 per cent score in the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index for the second consecutive year.

The 2026 Impact Report brings together the company’s progress across AI governance, operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, risk management and social impact, reflecting its efforts to integrate responsible technology practices into its wider business operations.
