IBM has announced an agreement to acquire Confluent, a leading data streaming company, as part of its strategy to accelerate hybrid cloud adoption and expand enterprise AI capabilities.
The acquisition is aimed at helping organisations access and act on data in real time across applications, systems and cloud environments. By integrating Confluent’s streaming technology, IBM plans to enable businesses to move beyond traditional batch data processing and support always-on, intelligent operations.
IBM said real-time data access has become critical as enterprises increasingly deploy AI, automation and digital workflows that demand instant insights. Confluent’s platform is expected to play a key role in powering event-driven architectures and supporting use cases such as fraud detection, supply chain optimisation and intelligent decision-making.
The deal aligns with IBM’s long-term focus on open technologies and disciplined acquisitions that enhance its hybrid cloud and AI portfolio. Once completed, Confluent’s capabilities will be integrated into IBM’s data, automation and AI offerings, further strengthening its enterprise technology stack.
