Atlassian has expanded its productivity tool Trello with support for Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Cursor to create boards, organise cards, update checklists and manage work directly within Trello.
The feature is available to both free and paid Trello users and does not require coding skills. Users can connect their preferred AI assistant by pasting a single URL, authorising access and interacting through natural language prompts.
According to Atlassian, AI assistants can create boards, add and move cards, build checklists and summarise upcoming tasks through simple conversations. The company said the process does not require OAuth app setup or marketplace installations.
The expansion follows the growth of Atlassian’s MCP ecosystem, which the company said has reached more than 1 million monthly active users since its launch.
Atlassian said the feature is designed for a wide range of users, including startup teams, freelancers, project managers, marketers and businesses managing collaborative work. It also supports personal planning activities such as travel itineraries, wedding checklists and fitness plans by allowing users to convert them into Trello boards using AI.
Sanchan Saxena, Senior Vice President and Head of Product, Teamwork Collection at Atlassian, said Trello MCP simplifies the process of creating structured project boards by allowing users to generate boards, lists, cards and checklists through a single instruction, reducing manual work and helping teams move from planning to execution more quickly.
The company said AI agents are increasingly being used beyond software development. According to Atlassian, 44 per cent of MCP users are non-developers, including marketers, HR professionals, project managers, freelancers and entrepreneurs.
Atlassian also said nearly one in three MCP operations involve AI agents creating, updating or moving work rather than only retrieving information.
