Rubrik has announced Rubrik MCP (Model Context Protocol), a new capability that provides AI agents with a secure and programmable interface to the company’s data, identity and application intelligence. The development expands Rubrik AI by connecting Anthropic’s AI models with Rubrik’s cybersecurity expertise and governance controls to support multi-step reasoning for critical incident response.
Arvind Nithrakashyap, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Rubrik, said the addition of MCP enables organisations to connect their AI agents with Rubrik’s telemetry and governance framework. He added that the approach is designed to help security teams maintain visibility and control as cyber threats and enterprise environments become increasingly complex.
Rubrik MCP directly exposes the application programming interface schema of Rubrik Security Cloud, allowing connected AI agents to access available capabilities. Organisations can also convert multi-step recovery and compliance processes into reusable tools that can be deployed across different AI clients.
Security controls remain central to the new capability. Rubrik MCP supports role-based access control, configurable permissions and guardrails aligned with the OWASP MCP Top 10. These measures are intended to allow organisations to extend AI-driven workflows while maintaining existing security and governance requirements.
The MCP capability builds on Rubrik AI, which is designed to work across data, identity and applications and support automated execution of security and resilience tasks. Rubrik said its agent architecture was developed in collaboration with Anthropic’s teams, with the aim of reducing response latency and improving the efficiency of multi-step reasoning.
Rubrik AI is currently being used by one-third of the company’s global customers. The company said the technology can also simplify operational tasks by providing users with concise explanations and recommended remediation steps. Mpho Mongalo, Senior Backup Specialist, Datacentrix, said Rubrik AI has helped reduce the time spent reviewing backup failure logs by providing immediate summaries of issues and guidance on corrective actions.
The latest announcement follows Rubrik’s recent introduction of Rubrik as an AI agent, further expanding the company’s efforts to integrate agentic capabilities into cyber resilience operations. Rubrik MCP is currently available to existing Rubrik customers through a private preview, with general availability targeted for October 2026.
