SMART Technologies has reinforced its commitment to a teacher-first approach to AI adoption, emphasising that technology must enhance classroom teaching rather than replace educators.
SMART Technologies underlined that while AI presents opportunities to personalise learning and improve efficiency, its impact will depend on how effectively it supports teachers in real classroom settings.
“India’s AI moment in education is real, and it is accelerating,” said Anshul Srivastav, Country Head, India, SMART Technologies. “However, technology alone cannot transform learning. The real transformation happens through teachers. AI should equip educators with better insights, tools, and time to focus on students, rather than attempting to replace the human connection at the core of learning.”
SMART Technologies has built its approach to classroom AI around this principle, particularly through Lumio, the browser-based teaching companion that combines AI capability with human creativity. Lumio’s AI Assist enables teachers to generate quiz-based activities and full lessons with a single prompt, reducing preparation time while maintaining control over content and delivery. The platform also allows educators to customise learning materials according to grade levels, design interactive classroom activities, and track student engagement in real time, ensuring that AI supports instruction without limiting teacher autonomy.
The company emphasised the importance of equitable access to AI-enabled education, noting that the benefits of such technologies must extend beyond well-resourced urban institutions. AI-driven tools, including translation features and accessibility support, can help bridge learning gaps and make educational resources more widely available across diverse geographies.
To support this vision, the company is strengthening its presence in India through local manufacturing initiatives in Andhra Pradesh and partnerships with educational institutions and stakeholders across Tier-1, Tier-2, and Tier-3 markets, aimed at expanding access to interactive and AI-enabled classroom technologies.
“India’s ambition to build an AI-ready workforce will ultimately be shaped in classrooms,” Srivastav added. “Ensuring that teachers are equipped with the right tools and confidence to integrate AI into everyday learning is critical to achieving this goal.”
As India continues to advance its digital education ecosystem, SMART Technologies maintains that the most effective AI solutions will be those that empower teachers, enhance learning experiences, and make education more engaging, inclusive, and accessible.
