Meta has acquired Limitless, a five-year-old artificial intelligence startup known for developing a clip-on pendant capable of recording conversations and generating AI-driven summaries.
The acquisition was confirmed by Dan Siroker, CEO, Limitless, in a company blog post, though financial terms were not disclosed.
Siroker said the team would join Meta to help realise the company’s broader ambition of bringing “personal superintelligence” to consumers through advanced AI-enabled wearables. Limitless’ pendant, introduced in 2024 at a launch price of $99, was designed to improve meeting productivity by capturing spoken interactions and using generative AI to produce concise memory aids and conversation analyses.
The deal underscores Meta’s increasing focus on AI-powered hardware as it seeks to shape what it sees as the next major shift in consumer technology. Under Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, Meta, leadership, the company has been building a suite of devices intended to challenge traditional smartphones.
Its Ray-Ban AI glasses, featuring a voice-based assistant, built-in speakers and an integrated camera, have performed strongly in the market, giving Meta renewed confidence in its hardware roadmap.
While Meta’s Metaverse ambitions have struggled to gain traction, the company continues to pour significant investment into hardware and design talent. It has recently hired prominent designers, including Alan Dye from Apple, to work on its next generation of AI-driven devices and supporting software.
Limitless joins a crowded field of emerging AI wearables, with several startups, such as Friend, Plaud and Bee, developing similar recording and summarisation gadgets. Bee was acquired by Amazon earlier this year, reflecting the growing industry belief that AI-enhanced personal devices will play a major role in future consumer technology.
Meta’s acquisition of Limitless signals a clear intent to accelerate its push into AI hardware, positioning the company to compete in a rapidly expanding market shaped by new forms of wearable intelligence.
