The Western Union Company has announced the launch of its global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, established in collaboration with HCLTech, marking a key milestone in the company’s ongoing transformation and expansion in India.
The new facility is designed to accelerate Western Union’s shift towards advanced AI-led innovation, supported by a platform-driven operating model and strong engineering capabilities. The GCC further deepens the strategic partnership between Western Union and HCLTech, with a focus on strengthening technology delivery and operational excellence.
Devin McGranahan, President and Chief Executive Officer, Western Union, said the Hyderabad centre represents an important step in the company’s transformation journey. He noted that the partnership with HCLTech combines deep engineering expertise with advanced AI capabilities to move beyond traditional payments, speed up innovation and deliver seamless and secure experiences to millions of customers globally.
Alongside Western Union’s Pune Tech Centre, the Hyderabad GCC will function as a global hub for technology, engineering and operations. The centre will play a critical role in developing next-generation payments infrastructure, enhancing digital consumer experiences and building world-class technology capabilities for the company.
C. Vijayakumar, CEO and Managing Director, HCLTech, said the collaboration is focused on delivering measurable outcomes aligned with Western Union’s Beyond strategy. He added that the partnership supports a digital-first business model, expands consumer services beyond remittances and modernises payments infrastructure for the future.
The GCC initiative was previously discussed during the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025 held in December, when Western Union’s leadership team met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and shared plans for setting up the centre in partnership with HCLTech under a Build-Operate-Transfer model.
